After purchasing a long block and alot of Mods from Z1 motorsport in Ga. I had a local garage here in Ct. install my new motor. When all was done, my car was not running well so I posted a question here in TT.net asking if anyone knew of a garage in new england that could take on the task of "fine tuning" my new motor. Someone replied with: ICS Performance (Imported cars of stamford) in Stamford, Ct. Saying the "Owner" owned a 300zx himself and knew what he was doing. I called and spoke to the owner and told him the problem I was having and he said he could fix it no problem but I would have to leave the car with him for about 30 days cause he was very busy, I agreed. When I brought the car to him it had approx 600 miles on it. The boost controller had not yet been turned on because I was still in break in period. so the car had not been boosted. When arriving to ICS I went over the car with the owner with a fine tooth comb cause it had been recently painted ($10,000 custom paint job)and I wanted to let him know there wasnt a scratch in it! For the next 4 weeks I tried to contact the garage to get updates and hardly ever got any response from the owner. (mostly a runaround) After 4 weeks my wife and I decided to make a surprise visit. When we got there my car was "nowhere" to be found! When I found the owner he didnt even know who I was! Once I told him who I was he started talking 100 miles an hour trying to explain to me that he had brought my car home to his house so it wouldn't get damaged. He explained to me he didn't want to see that beautiful paint job scratched while it was sitting in his lot, well I bought it! He then apolgized to me and said he would get right on it. To make a long story short after 9 weeks of bugging the heck out of him, he finally called me and said : its finished! When I got there I again went over my car and found a couple of major scratches and rock chips on my car! I pointed these out to the owner and he denied them saying: it must be bubbles in the paint and he didn't do it! Well, I asked him to change my oil before I left and he did. We then went for a test drive so he could show me how well my car was now running. He drove first. leaving the lot, he got on it, I noticed the boost controller was on and it was set on HIGH. As he noticed it he then said oh wait, thats set too high I better turn it down.We drove a ways and switched so I could drive. I was happy with the response of the car so we returned to his garage and I payed him. ($4000.00) I wasn't happy with the bill and his explaination of what he did to fix it but I just wanted my car back after all the waiting I went thru. ( my fault) after getting the car home I resumed driving it to break it in. after 800 miles I decided to change the oil and found it to be 2 quarts low. I thought maybe it was due to the break in or maybe ICS didnt put enough oil in it. I then started watching my oil consumption. After checking it on a regular basis, I was burning over 2 quarts in every 600 to 800 miles. I had a compression test done and it showed 3 cylinders were low. I contacted Z1 to tell them my problem and they were more than happy to check it out, but didnt think it was anything to do with their workmanship, The problem was Z1 is in Ga. and I didnt want to spend the extra funds to get it there. As far as Z1 motorsports, I have no issues with them , they are a fine establishment and did everything they could to help me. I then brought my car to a 300zx tech who specialized in just 300zx's. His findings were that my car had been overboosted and it cooked my rings and a couple of valves and valve guides. Before he pulled my motor, he read my Pro Spec B boost controller and found that "Someone" had boosted my car to 2 bar! Hmmmmmmmm! Funny I never turned my boost controller on before I brought it to ICS Performance. I wanted to make sure I knew what the problem was before I placed blame on anyone so I waited to call ICS till I knew. I then emailed the owner and told him what had been done. He responed to me and told me there was no way he detonated my car! I explained to him that it had to be him cause no one else drove my car and I never boosted it. I also explained to him that it cost me $600 to fix the paint. He finally admitted that it could have been him who put the scratches in my new paint job, but never offered to reinburish me for it! I also found out he Dynoed my car and knew he shouldn't have with that little miles on it. So...... Lets put this all into perspective.....ICS kept my car for 9 weeks, did $600 worth of paint damage, drove it around, obviously over boosted it, dynoed it,charged me alot of money to "fix it", and Denied he did anything wrong. I have since had my motor rebuilt again and it cost me over $6000 to do it ($6800 with a couple of mods I added) and its perfect! You live and learn! NOTE: This posting is to let fellow car owners know make sure you do your homework before letting someone work on your car! This only explains MY EXPERIENCES with ICS Performance of Stamford. In no way am I trying to Ruin his character or the character of his business. Thank You
